J. Chein was an American toy manufacturer in business from 1903 through the 1980s. He is best known for his mechanical toys made from stamped and lithographed tin produced from the 1930s through the 1950s.

He founded his toy company in the loft of his New York City apartment. Chein's earliest toy's were produced for inclusion in Cracker Jacks. The American Can Company provided the lithographs for Chein's earliest toys until 1907 when he opened his own production plant in Harrison, New Jersey.

His Hercules line started as a series of tin toy trucks, and that success lead to the production of a roller-coaster line and the Ferris Wheel we see here today.

This Ferris Wheel is the result of a four month restoration project, it's almost all original, as I spent 2 months finding as many original parts as I could. Some rubber washers and c-clips (not original pieces) were used to drive the main axle to get the wheel to rotate. I did not touch up the paint to maintain it's vintage appeal.
